Dr. Michael A. Hochman, one of Laredo’s leading board certified ophthalmologists and expert retina specialists, announced the official kick off of Glasses for Classes, a free eye care program created to promote healthy eyes and vision for school children in Laredo.
As they prepare to enter the 2019-2020 academic school year, students from J.C. Martin Elementary School (Laredo Independent School District) and Freedom Elementary School (United Independent School District) will participate in the program as it kicks off its first year.
“There are many kids who can’t afford glasses and therefore can not live up to their potential at school because of this. I want all the children to live up to their potential. That is what we need, it is what makes our community succeed. The teachers are already doing a lot, so it is a perfect way for me to help the schools by providing free examinations and free glasses for some of the kids in our community who need this service,” said Dr. Hochman.
Dr. Hochman will provide free eye exams and glasses to the students during their summer 2019 vacation so they can be ready once the new academic year starts. Children will learn about why it is important to check their eyes and how that will help them do better in school. The goal for Glasses for Classes is not just to offer free eye care or glasses, but to instill in young people the importance of eye health.
