Dr. Michael A. Hochman Continues His Legacy of Giving; Provides Grants to Local Teachers. – For over twenty years Dr. Michael A. Hochman, Laredo’s most highly skilled ophthalmologist, has been investing into ventures that appeal to his generous heart. He has found that the best way to pay it forward is to cultivate and invest into what truly matters, the community and people of Laredo.
It has taken Dr. Hochman hard work, extensive time, and stern dedication to reach his level of expertise. This has not deterred him from giving. Since he arrived in Laredo, Dr. Hochman has been proactive in civic engagement. In 1999, he established the Rochelle and Sidney Hochman Educational Support Grant that benefits teachers from the Laredo and United Independent School Districts. As a product of public schools himself, Dr. Hochman knows that local funding doesn’t always fulfill every child’s needs. He wants students to have the best education and is doing his part to make that happen.
The monies designated for the grant program have supported a wide range of teachers each school year for the past seventeen years. The grant can be used by the recipients to provide additional resources in their classrooms, thus providing a more enriching learning experience for Laredo school children. Dr. Hochman has provided support to hundreds of teachers and even more children.
Dr. Hochman is wholeheartedly dedicated to the Laredo community. He prioritizes social issues that are important to work on because they impact the community’s future. This is why he has dedicated a lot of his time and money into helping organizations like Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, Texas School for the Deaf, Bethany House, and the Laredo Boys and Girls Club.
