Dr. Michael A. Hochman, board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist, has been investing into projects that appeal to his generous heart. For twenty years, Dr. Hochman has partnered with Mercy Ministries of Laredo to offer his professional and surgical services two to three weeks every year.
During the free eye clinics Dr. Hochman performs medical evaluations for cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy to Mercy Ministries of Laredo patients who are in most cases indigent, low-income, and uninsured. Several of the participants have been Dr. Hochman’s patients for many years. He has cured most of their eye diseases and continues to evaluate their cases to maintain their eye health. Patients receive free treatments and surgical procedures during this clinic.
Mercy Ministries of Laredo provides primary healthcare services to the neediest residents of Webb County who are looking for a doctor. It is this mission that called Dr. Hochman to also help these patients to prevent and help them take control of their chronic eye illnesses through education and regular follow-up.
Dr. Hochman is an active volunteer in Laredo who weekly gives his time and services to organizations like Volunteers Serving the Need and Bethany House of Laredo. Every week, Dr. Hochman, his family, and staff devote their time to volunteer. His staff has been inspired to join Dr. Hochman in his volunteer efforts and have spent time assisting at the Regional Food Bank, the Special Olympics, as well as the Laredo Animal Protective Society. Dr. Hochman continues to demonstrate a true commitment to the community of Laredo.
