Dr. Michael A. Hochman, board certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist, has been giving endless hours of his time as an active participant in the community providing hope and confidence to those less fortunate. From a young age Dr. Hochman learned to serve others by helping his parents as they volunteered in his home town. Today, Dr. Hochman is making a mark on his children by passing on the legacy of giving.
Recently, Dr. Hochman’s staff have been inspired to join him in his efforts to give back to the community. Dr. Hochman believes that helping the community is an obligation that adds a new level of purpose to life. Volunteer group efforts help reduce stress levels that are caused by everyone’s busy lives so he’s been encouraging his staff to partake in volunteering.
A few weeks ago members of his staff spent a day helping the Laredo Regional Food Bank. Dora Rodriguez, Jessica Rodriguez, Kassandra De Leon and Natalie Caballero assisted by organizing new pantry items and helped clean the space. “We really enjoyed working at the Food Bank and helping the organization because they do so much for the community. It feels really good to give back. It also brought our group closer together. We had a lot of fun working in a different environment. It was a true bonding experience,” said Dora Rodriguez.
Dr. Hochman and his staff have also been volunteering at this year’s Special Olympics. Esther Valencia, Arturo Salinas, Vanessa Ibarra, Dora Rodriguez, Dulce Olvera, Eliza de los Santos, Amanda Garza and Sandra Garza have all participated along with Dr. Hochman.
Dr. Hochman offers services for diabetic and vitreoretinal eye disease, cataract, and glaucoma management. He performs surgical and laser procedures at his fully accredited on-site surgery center, Laredo Laser & Surgery located at 5313 McPherson Road.
